rubies and love songs

23 Jul

A flirtation with the delightful life has inspired –rubies and love songs, a weekly post that presents something positively uplifting, powerfully felicitous, sugary and sunshine-y, in the hopes of making you smile out loud.

Because I’m going to need a nursery one day, I’m drooling over this one today.

I love every single thing about this photo found in dottie angel’s flickr photosteam. From the pretty cupboard to the charming vintage toy and right down to her happy sandals. Me thinks if it’s not too hot tomorrow, I’ll wear my new straight leg Hudsons rolled up quite a bit.

Hope your weekend is beautiful!

If you’re my true (blog) friend, you’re brain just went something like this:

Brain- MMMMMM, what is that?!

And your stomach chimed in:

Stomach- Is it lunch time yet? Let’s skip lunch and go for whatever in baby jesus’ name that is.

This is doughnut french toast. One more time in case it didn’t sink in. DOUGHNUT FRENCH TOAST. The recipe can be found at Dujour Mag. You’re welcome.

Bon weekend!

Hmm, I’ve been wanting a new tattoo. I wonder what my sister would have to say about that…

Happy Friday, Beauties.

At least 85% of women who have miscarriages have subsequent normal pregnancies and births.

Have a fantastic weekend, my wonderfully supportive readers.

On Monday, Jim and I celebrated our second wedding anniversary. Below is a photo of my bouquet filled with peonies. They held up despite the fact that it was 100 degrees. Seriously, I am pretty sure temps reached 100 degrees.

I love peonies. I think they are the most beautiful flower in all the world.

Merry Weekend!

I love leopard. I know there are people out there that associate leopard prints with bat-shit crazy women, but I associate them more with the women seen here. Women with timeless style and the utmost sophistication. Jackie, Audrey…okay Kate Moss may very well be bat-shit, but let us ignore her.

Happy warm-weather weekend!

extended version…

This is a photo taken of a photo that hangs in our dining room. It was taken by my cousin and it features the entry way to my very first place here in South Jersey. This weekend marks 5 years since I made the move from a northern New Jersey college town down to the southern parts of a state that doesn’t get the credit it deserves (but that’s for another day). I moved down here because I had no other plans, and because my cousin and his wife offered up a sweet studio apartment above their garage (and amazing backyard oasis, complete with giant pool) in exchange for taking care of their two young girls. This ‘temporary’ arrangement turned into 2 years and one of the most amazing experiences in my life. It was here that I landed my first ‘real’ job, made my first adult friends, learned priceless tools for motherhood, and fell in love with the man I would marry.

If you had told me five years ago today, as I was packing up my college apartment in tears, that I would be a married, non-drinking, self-employed writer with a baby on the way in just five years…I would have laughed in your face.

I didn’t have a plan, but it all worked out perfectly in the end. Dreams that I never knew I had, came true. Happy Anniversary South Jersey,  you’re alright.

Have a wonderful holiday weekend!

Naturally, some people are up in arms about Michelle Obama’s recent look, worn to a state dinner. I think she looks stunning. Had Laura Bush worn the same frock, nobody would have batted an eyelash. But apparently Michelle is just too sassy in glitter and big sexy hair.

But negativity isn’t what rubies and love songs is all about, so I’m just gonna keep on loving how hot they look. Yeah, I called Mr. Pres. & the First Lady “hot.”

Take that and have yourself a happy, happy weekend!  [image via the cut]
