extended version…

This is a photo taken of a photo that hangs in our dining room. It was taken by my cousin and it features the entry way to my very first place here in South Jersey. This weekend marks 5 years since I made the move from a northern New Jersey college town down to the southern parts of a state that doesn’t get the credit it deserves (but that’s for another day). I moved down here because I had no other plans, and because my cousin and his wife offered up a sweet studio apartment above their garage (and amazing backyard oasis, complete with giant pool) in exchange for taking care of their two young girls. This ‘temporary’ arrangement turned into 2 years and one of the most amazing experiences in my life. It was here that I landed my first ‘real’ job, made my first adult friends, learned priceless tools for motherhood, and fell in love with the man I would marry.
If you had told me five years ago today, as I was packing up my college apartment in tears, that I would be a married, non-drinking, self-employed writer with a baby on the way in just five years…I would have laughed in your face.
I didn’t have a plan, but it all worked out perfectly in the end. Dreams that I never knew I had, came true. Happy Anniversary South Jersey, you’re alright.
Have a wonderful holiday weekend!
