Years ago, I remember telling my mom that if and when I ever had a home, I would just give her money and have her decorate it for me. Thinking about this now is horrifying (sorry mom). Back then the task just seemed so daunting. How do you afford it all at once and more importantly, how does it all come together?
Before Jim and I even settled on a house, I began collecting things. A table from eBay, a photograph from Etsy, a rug from Target. Before I knew it, it all came together. Each piece gathered from a different place. Very little matchy-matchy. Breaking every rule in the book. I love my house, but at a certain point, all of your walls are covered, every inch of floor space is accounted for, and you feel “done.” I browse online, thrift shops, and IKEA and think “That’s nice, but really, my home is done.” Of course there is always room for a little change. But if it ain’t broke…

In January, I finally created a great little space in the room off of our bedroom. My dressing room project was long awaited and very therapeutic. Then I felt really, really done.

And now? I have a nursery to design! It is so, so exciting and even though I have purchased a few things already, I am waiting to get past the next few weeks to really go to town. I don’t care how silly it sounds, but I am creating this nursery specifically to have it featured on a major design blog. And this doesn’t mean it will have to be some shmancy, everything-designer-and-brand-new room. I mean a cool design blog, where the details are of the utmost importance and the crib can be from IKEA. Even though the crib I have chosen will be far from IKEA (hey someone else is paying, why be budget conscious?) I have high hopes people. Every single detail will be perfect. Stay tuned.
Obviously this post would be waaay better if I had taken photos specifically of my home in the past 3 years. Yeah, I need to clean and then get right on that…
