Chic of the Week

Interpreting the trends in an affordable fashion comes easily to Miele Bianco. A cinched, multi-chain look lends their Kiera Drawstring Satchel her of-the-moment panache that’s backed by high quality faux-leather and a gorgeous metallic…continue reading

Dear Neighbor Who Wears Visors,

12 Aug

Visors suck. I guess I kind of get wearing them for activities in which  you want to keep the sun off of your face, but not trap heat on your head. For example fishing, golfing and tennis. However, coming home from work, sliding out of your Docker pants and into your Docker shorts and throwing on a visor – every day – is not a good look. In fact, it keeps me from guessing that you are in fact a previous generation douchebag (not to be confused with today’s breed of douchebag).

Get a hat. Or a pair of sunglasses.

Best,

Brooke

P.S. Oh, and you can pass this along  to your friend/relative that wears them all the time too. He looks equally ridiculous.

All in the details

14 Jun

Years ago, I remember telling my mom that if and when I ever had a home, I would just give her money and have her decorate it for me. Thinking about this now is horrifying (sorry mom). Back then the task just seemed so daunting. How do you afford it all at once and more importantly, how does it all come together?

Before Jim and I even settled on a house, I began collecting things. A table from eBay, a photograph from Etsy, a rug from Target. Before I knew it, it all came together. Each piece gathered from a different place. Very little matchy-matchy. Breaking every rule in the book. I love my house, but at a certain point, all of your walls are covered, every inch of floor space is accounted for, and you feel “done.” I browse online, thrift shops, and IKEA and think “That’s nice, but really, my home is done.” Of course there is always room for a little change. But if it ain’t broke…

In January, I finally created a great little space in the room off of our bedroom. My dressing room project was long awaited and very therapeutic. Then I felt really, really done.

And now? I have a nursery to design! It is so, so exciting and even though I have purchased a few things already, I am waiting to get past the next few weeks to really go to town. I don’t care how silly it sounds, but I am creating this nursery specifically to have it featured on a major design blog. And this doesn’t mean it will have to be some shmancy, everything-designer-and-brand-new room. I mean a cool design blog, where the details are of the utmost importance and the crib can be from IKEA. Even though the crib I have chosen will be far from IKEA (hey someone else is paying, why be budget conscious?) I have high hopes people. Every single detail will be perfect. Stay tuned.

Obviously this post would be waaay better if I had taken photos specifically of my home in the past 3 years. Yeah, I need to clean and then get right on that…

The Death of the Underground

21 Apr

This is totally “off topic” for me, but I found this interview with former Club Kid and convicted murderer, Michael Alig via love you in the fall.

I was really intrigued by the following:

“Rudolf was always at the forefront of everything. In 1989, he saw this coming, and that’s why he named his club Quick. He said that things were going to be happening very, very fast from now on—satellites and MTV were just the beginning—that it would be impossible to keep anything secret and the notion of the underground would be flipped on its head. And that’s exactly what happened. Rudolf predicted that the Club Kids would be the last large subculture to come out of Manhattan, because a subculture needs time to germinate and build. And there won’t be time anymore, because as soon as something happens it will be assimilated instantly. I think the Misshapes are a good example of that because they became assimilated instantly. And if the Internet had been around in our time, the same thing would have happened to us.”

This is quite amazing if what he says is true…that this gentleman predicted the death of all things underground. It extends beyond this and translates to music, fashion, trends, slang. Nothing stays “cool” for too long anymore. Thoughts?

rubies and love songs

My third women’s history month post is going to be a bit delayed. I’m okay with it. As long as I complete 4, I’ll be pleased with myself. Reason for the delay? I’ll be enjoying a spa day! I am super excited. I am the DD for my husband and some friends who are attending a beer festival. While they’re drinking their calories and getting tipsy before 4pm, I’ll be enjoying relaxation and pampering. Sobriety has its perks.

I just wanted to pop in today to share this awful t-shirt. Not only is it ugly, but it features a message to match:

Hardy har har. Perhaps if this model had gone to a few meetings, she’d still have both of her hands.

not off the hook yet

You didn’t think you’d get through an entire NY Fashion Week with just one post from me, did you? I promise, just this one more.

Here are some looks from Tibi:

I have attempted this strapless layered look for about 3 years now. No such luck looking pulling it off.

I watched about 7 or 8 shows on Livestream with the lovely Mary Rambin from MorethanMary.com. Of them all, Isaac Mizrahi was my favorite. The show itself was spirited and fun and evoked emotion, this is what a good show does for me. Marc Jacobs was great too, but I like Isaac better. This surprised me…but I won’t bore you with the reason why. I’ll let the images do the talking:
