Heretic Momma

26 May

Now that the news is out, it might be a little clearer as to why this post came about. For one, during this danger zone in pregnancy, I have wanted so badly to be one of those people that puts it all in god’s hands. These are the very same people who tell themselves that it was god’s plan if something goes wrong. But enough worrying.

I’ve also been questioning my position on god and religion in the wake of becoming a parent. Not so much questioning, but trying to establish something to pass on to my child. I thought about creating a book of wisdom, with all of the things that I believe in – some even taken from what I believe religion used to be about (before it got all jihad, abortion, and gay rights on us). For example, do unto others; the idea that every negative action has a negative consequence; the power of thinking positive; perspective – the idea that there is always someone that has it worse than you “i complained about having no shoes until i saw a man that had no feet”; self-respect; resist feeling sorry for yourself; gratitude; the importance of good health, exercise and grooming; to be continued…

So, how does this sound to you? Since I loved every response I received on the post about god, I am sure that you have some lovely tidbits to add to the proposed book of wisdom.

Off to google what scrapbooking is…

P.S Thank you all so much for your congratulatory wishes and efforts to quell my worries.

I am so sorry I missed your annoucement post – huge congrats to you!
Before I made any annoucement about my 1st pregnancy the eagle eye of a neighbour sussed out that I was (she was big in the La Leche League) and loaned me a book; the opening line was “A pregnant woman is like a tree in full bloom…” I never read any further!
You will instill, conciously or unconciously, all sorts of values into your child – you have written some lovely pieces, (your kind words have been much appreciated) which indicate to me that you are pretty switched on – my advice is to trust your instincts!

Someday these moments will be so very valuable…hide them from yourself if you need to, but save them…A book of wisdom is an awesome idea, and I highly recommend scrapbooking, which can be a journal of sorts…go google altered books and art journals…It might be something you find worth throwing yourself into.
